Correlation relationships of deformation properties among asphalt mixtures and their input materials
Original language description
Deformation characteristics are one of the key properties of asphalt mixtures, mainly because of the increasing traffic loadings and intensities within last years. Characteristics of bituminous binders are one of the most important aspects, which affect the deformation behavior of final asphalt mixture. For this reason the project is aimed to evaluate selected rheological tests of bituminous binders on Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) to predict the deformation characteristics of asphalt mixtures. Selected tests of bituminous binders are Multiple Stress Creep and Recovery (MSCR) and oscillation test with frequency sweep. Deformation characteristics obtained from these tests were compared with the characteristics of asphalt mixtures assessed from rutting and stiffness modulus. An interesting comparison, which will be also determined in this project, is evaluation of influence of different types of aggregates. An important goal of the experimental study was to find relationships between individual characteristics and the determination of correlation coefficient, which can be used to define particular mix characteristics. For this research Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA 11S) was selected. SMA is used in wearing courses of pavements with expected high traffic load (motorways, expressways, etc.) and has very good deformation characteristics.
