Utilization of computational modelling for determination of hydration kinetics of heterogeneous materials

  • Original language description

A computational method for determination of hydration kinetics of heterogeneous samples is described in the paper. This method presents an alternative to mathematical approaches that are currently used for the correction of signal delay that is typical for isothermal heat flow calorimeters and may lead to distortion of results. The three-dimensional computational model of the calorimeter respects all the details of experimental device and the nonstationary heat transport is solved using finite element method. The preliminary results indicate that modelling outputs are realistic and correspond to the experimental outputs as well as to the mathematical solution of the problem described by the Tian’s equation (R2 = 0.9998). Therefore, the proposed method has a large potential to be used for determination of hydration kinetics of materials when combined with classic experimental approaches.
