Reliability of microwave link rainfall data for urban runoff modelling
Original language description
Unmeasured spatial rainfall variability is an important source of uncertainty in urban runoff modelling. Due to the excellent spatial coverage and high temporal resolution, commercial microwave links (CMLs) could improve the rainfall data quality. We use both the CMLs and traditional rainfall data to model runoff in a small urban catchment, and we analyze uncertainty of the model outputs. Our results demonstrate that the CML data improve results of runoff modelling, especially when compared to data from remote rain gauges. Interestingly, for extremely spatially variable rainfalls, exploiting the CML data leads to results outperforming even the rain gauge data originating directly in the catchment.
