In the present study, we measured through-diffusion of calcium ions Ca2+ in aquatic solutions for a selected sandstone sample of porosity 27 % from the area of eastern Bohemia. The experiment was performed under laboratory conditions in a two-side plexiglass box at ambient temperature 20 ± 2 °C for a period of 264 hours. Calcium concentrations were analyzed chelatometrically. The experimental data were analyzed by the time-lag method and both the bulk and surface diffusion coefficients were estimated as Db = 3.65 x 10–9 m2s–1 and Ds = 3.22 x 10–10 m2s–1. In fact this is a maximal value that Ds attains, corresponding to about 0.6 % of the pore volume to be occupied by the surface diffusion of calcium. A strong sensitivity of the time-lag method for migrating particles with a slightly non-linear adsorption isotherm is pointed out.
