The Effect of Gamma Radiation on Mechanical Properties of Cement Mortar
Original language description
This study focuses on experimental investigation of the effect of gamma radiation on cement mortar properties. The investigated mechanical parameters are the compressive strength, the modulus of elasticity and the creep behaviour under long-term loading. The shrinkage is also measured so that the plain creep can be identified. In order to separate the effect of gamma radiation, a set of specimens is exposed to gamma radiation and the other identical set of specimens is placed in the same conditions without the gamma radiation. Moreover, the effect of gamma radiation on hardening cement mortar is also investigated when the alterations in the hydration reaction process are monitored in terms of volumetric changes of specimens and the ultimate compressive strength. It is believed that the obtained experimental data will help to fill in the gap in the input parameters for the numerical analyses of structural response of load-bearing biological shield walls.
