    Contact Blast Loading of Multi-Layer Concrete-Based Structures

    This paper provides a desription of experimental testing of multilayer concrete-based structures exposed to contact blast loading. The tested specimens were wall elements composed of three layers (ultra-high performance concrete – soft core – ultra-high performance concrete). Expanded polystyrene and recycled textile mats were used as the soft core. The loading was caused by an explosive charge of Pentaerythritol tetranitrate attached directly to the specimen surface. The macroscopic damage was evaluated visually. The inner damage of the residual material was evaluated using an ultrasonic measurement technique. The performance of the tested multi-layer concrete-based specimens subjected to blast loading was analysed. The materials used as a soft core were evaluated in terms of their contribution to blast resistance of tested multi-layer specimens.
