EFFECT OF HORIZONTAL THERMAL GRADIENT ON GEODETIC MEASUREMENTS - MEASUREMENT AROUND THE BLAST FURNACE
Original language description
This paper deals with the issue of the influence of the horizontal temperature gradient (horizontal refraction) on geodetic measurements of the horizontal direction. The topic of horizontal refraction has not yet been given much attention in research, especially because it is significantly less than the effect of vertical refraction in common geodetic practice. The article presents the mathematical modelling process by solving the differential equation of wave propagation in non-homogeneous atmosphere. On this basis, a specific case where this effect is significant, a measurement near a strong cylindrical heat source (such as a blast furnace) is then solved. Simulation of the passage of the beam curved by the inhomogeneous environment was performed and the resulting transverse deviation was evaluated in relation to the source temperature and the distance between the position and the target mark. In the simulation, the furnace temperature was used in the range from 400 ° C to 1000 ° C, distance from the target from 60 to 150 m. The result of the calculations is an estimate of the development of the resulting transverse deviation including a graphical representation of the overall shape of the curve. A special simulation was also carried out for a very close passage of the line of the sight to the heat source, only 0.1 m.
