Original language description
The ramming is one of the basic ways how to build a construction with unfired earth. Rammed earth is mostly used for bearing constructions and therefore it is important to know its mechanical properties. The mechanical properties depends on composition of the mixture that means the ration between used sand and clay, a type of used clay and the amount of mixing water. The article is focused on methods how to determine mechanical properties of unfired rammed earth. The compressive strength and tensile strength in bending can be classed among mechanical properties. The methods of measuring compressive strength, producing and preparing specimens for testing are described in the first part of paper. The second part describes tests of tensile strength in bending and resulting properties from the test. Besides mechanical properties the attention is focused on the changes of wetness in rammed earth. The material variability of tested rammed earth mixtures is presented in the final part. The experimental measurements were realized in laboratories of Department of Mechanics by autors of this article.
