During the past few decades, the presence of pharmaceuticals in the environment has gained increasing attention. Scientific literature demonstrates that pharmaceuticals enter the environment and can produce adverse effects. Scientists are studying effect of these drugs on ecosystems and are trying to find ways of preventing the problem. Drugs and personal care products pass through the wastewater tratment without being retained. This review gives an overview of the present state of knowledge presenting typical results and lines of discussion.
