Computational modelling of thermal processes in a calorimetric experiment

  • Original language description

The paper deals with design and construction of a precise three-dimensional computational model of selected calorimeter is constructed. It is formed by 121K computational nodes and 691K tetrahedral elements. Its application therefore requires certain computing power. Representing a reliable replica of the real experimental device, the model is supposed to reproduce experimental outputs being free of experimental errors or other sources of uncertainties as it is based only on theoretical assumptions. The behavior of the model was verified by comparison of shape similarity of computational and experimental output curves describing melting of silver sample. The results showed very good match of R2=0.8664 prior to the thorough calibration. The physical behavior of the model was additionally verified also from the point of view of thermal kinetics, as the computational outputs of various heating rates complied with data published in scientific literature. This model therefore represents the first step towards deeper and detailed investigation of thermal processes in building materials.
