DSC and TGA of a kaolin-based ceramics with zeolite addition during heating up to 1100 °C

  • Original language description

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and termogravimetric analysis (TGA) are used to study a kaolinbased ceramics with zeolite addition during heating up to 1100 °C. The samples are prepared from Sedlec kaolin (Czech Republic) and from zeolite from Nižný Hrabovec (Slovakia). DSC and TGA are performed on powder samples (5 mixtures) where (0 – 50) mass% of kaolin is replaced by zeolite. Also pure kaolin and zeolite samples are studied. The DSC measurements are carried out in a dynamic argon atmosphere with linear heating rate of 5 °C/min from 30 °C to 1100 °C. The same temperature regime is used for the TG measurements but in a dynamic atmosphere of dry air. The results show that the increasing amount of zeolite in samples causes reductive effect of processes which occurs during thermal treatment of kaolin.
