The book is devoted to the work of Matthäus Merian Senior and his copper engravings depicting the battlefields of the Thirty Years’ War in the Czech lands with a detailed focus on the Swedish campaign in Bohemia in 1647. The engravings have been studied, described, and analyzed with the use of interdisciplinary approaches and methods as a reflection of the Czech and Central European landscape. Upon deeper contemporary exploration, this landscape may be dubbed a "military landscape" in terms of the sites of former battles. The publication is a wholly unique and highly revealing work that is methodologically founded on interdisciplinary grounds and was successfully and innovatively linked, combined, and applied to a collection of historical sources not hitherto studied using such methods.
