Verification of the biocidal efficiency of Ag nanosystems on reference samples of selected historical materials

  • Original language description

The current approach to the restoration of cultural heritage buildings emphasis on minimizing interventions to preserve the authenticity and historical value of both the whole and the details. Most surfaces of historic buildings are degraded by physical, chemical and biological influences, where major problem is biological degradation (so-called biodeterioration). Biodeterioration is any unacceptable change in material properties caused by the life activity of microorganisms - deteriogens, which in most cases aesthetically damage buildings (eg. typical vegetation staining) and, in particular, degrades them functionally. As part of the NAKI research project, this issue is solved with nanosuspension of calcium hydroxide doped with silver particles, given that silver nanoparticles have unique catalytic and optical qualities and high biocidal activities. The paper is focused on verification of biocidal activity of lime nanosuspensions with Ag nanoparticles applied to reference samples of stone. Laboratory prepared lime nanosuspensions were doped with colloidal silver, exposed to external environment and subjected to laboratory tests.
