Effect of Ceramic Waste Fineness on Properties of Alkali-Activated Aluminosilicates
Original language description
The alkali activation of aluminosilicates allows to transform amorphous structures into very compact well-connected composites. As these composites are preferably prepared from industrial waste, they present a promising way for design of cement-free environmentally friendly binders. In this paper, ceramic waste powder with different fineness obtained from the final cut of bricks during their production was utilized as a precursor for the production of alkali-activated aluminosilicates. The basic physical and mechanical properties were examined after 28 days of curing. The development of the porous system was studied by means of mercury intrusion porosimetry and scanning electron microscopy. The obtained results showed that the use of the finer ceramic waste powder led to the formation of a more compact microstructure with improved compressive strength properties.
