This paper presents experimental and numerical investigation of the branch plate connection to a high strength steel circular hollow section member subjected to axial compression in the braces with chord face plastification failure mode. The aim of this research is to investigate an effect of increased yield strength on the joint load-bearing capacity. Experimental program consists of 10 samples fabricated from S700 steel with longitudinally and transversely welded plates was conducted. Numerical model has been created in finite element software Abaqus and validated based on the experimental data. Numerical study covering a wide range of the joint geometric dimensions is ongoing.
