Modern precise material modelling requires the analysis on multiple scales. The response of the material at the product scale is obtained through the homogenisation of its microstructure. Material data for the micro model usually come from computer tomography scans with pixel/voxel structure. Such a regular structure of underlying material data gives rise to specialized discretisation techniques.
