Synthesis of partially oxidized graphite oxide by oxidation of nanographite
Original language description
The research of 2D carbon-based nanomaterials has become very intensive since the discovery of graphene. Many different preparation procedures of graphene and graphene derivatives have been reported. The aim of this paper was to prepare and characterize partially oxidized graphite oxides, which were prepared from nanographite by adding different amounts of potassium permanganate as an oxidizing agent. The C/O ratio was evaluated from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The amount and type of individual oxygen functionalities were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The structure of partially oxidized graphite oxides was studied by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Results proved that the oxygen content was increasing proportionally to the amount of oxidizing agent. Obtained C/O ratio was between 2 and 16 based on used analytic techniques. The interlayer distances in partially oxidized graphite oxides were also increasing. Oxidation process had no significant impact on the morphology of partially oxidized graphite oxides, the typical layered structure was confirmed for all samples. Obtained results will be useful for the synthesis of partially oxidized graphite oxide with required oxygen content. Such materials will be used for the preparation of electrically conductive composite polymers for wearable electronics or as nanoadmixture for improvement of functional properties of selected construction materials.
