    REDUCTION OF FORMWORK PRESSURES IN SELF-COMPACTING CONCRETE

    Introducing nanoscale modifiers to concrete leads to improved material properties both in fresh and hardened state. This paper investigates an effect of metakaolin and nanoclay addition to Portland cement pastes and also to self-compacting concrete (SCC) mixtures. The study quantifies the effect of mineral admixtures on the fresh state properties in terms of slump flow, hydration heat release and hardened properties of modified cement pastes quntified by nanoindentation. Development of thixotropy is demonstrated also for real SCC mixtures and the lateral formwork pressure is monitored. It was found that both additives, metakaolin and nanoclay, have a large potential to reduce lateral pressures by about 10-13% in the order of minutes after casting.
