Load-bearing capacity tests in bending of RC elements strengthened with UHPFRC layer

  • Original language description

Very good mechanical properties and long-term durability make UHPFRC an ideal material for strengthening of existing structures. With a smaller amount of strengthening material, compared to ordinary concrete mixtures, it is achieved a higher load-bearing capacity. Experimental tests on reinforced concrete elements strengthened with a UHPFRC layer in the tensile zone were performed in three phases with regard to the type of stress – bending, shear and punching shear tests. In this paper will be presented results of first part of experiments – bending tests. The aim of the tests was to determine the load-bearing capacity with regard to the thickness of the strengthening UHPFRC layer and to confirm the assumption of interaction with the existing concrete surface layer at different types of loads, using only the suitable surface treatment of the strengthened concrtete element. In all stages of the experiments, the tests were performed on three types of the cross-section, reference and strengthened with thickness of 30 and 50 mm UHPFRC strengthening layer.
