Numerical Homogenization of Gyroid Structures
Original language description
The paper presents a numerical homogenization of elastic properties of gyroid structures used in modern implantology. Gyroid structures can be characterized as a system of intersecting walls. Their numerical modeling and three-dimensional discretization by finite elements usually give a vast number of degrees of freedom. A homogenization approach based on a two-level method can be a practical solution. A coarse mesh discretizes the gyroid specimen at the macro-level, and elements are represented by homogenized properties taken from a representative volume element analysis at the meso-level. The application of the two-scale procedure is illustrated by a numerical simulation of compression tests of gyroid specimens.
