UHPC - Efficient method for strengthening of concrete strucutres
Original language description
Concrete structures have been built for more than 100 years. A lot of them requires reconstruction or strengthening during its service life. UHPC provides an efficient tool for increasing their load carrying capacity and durability. The paper shows some possibilities of strengthening and illustrates the behaviour of structural elements by experimental results under different loading conditions. Differences in strengthening of buildings and of bridges are highlighted. Requirements on the properties of UHPC are clearly defined. The guidelines for design of structures made of UHPC developed by the Czech Concrete Society are briefly described. Finally, and example of application of UHPC in a reconstruction of a prestressed concrete bridge in Prague is presented.
