Adaptive Reuse Of Abandoned Industrial Structures

  • Original language description

The exhibition presents student conversion projects from the Šenberger/Pustějovský/Hájek studio and other collaborators from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, introducing adaptive reuse of former industrial buildings to serve new purposes. The adaptive reuse potential was perceived as a decisive characteristic. The exhibition is divided into four sections, according to the nature of the adapted buildings: multi-storey industrial buildings; hall-like structures; breweries; specific technical structures. The exhibition also shows an educational process, during which students learn about adaptive reuse potential through specific, often currently threatened, examples. The most important part of the teaching of architecture at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague is carried out through studio-based work, and within the framework of elaboration of an in-depth architectural study of a real object. The results are presented in the form of posters and physical models and exhibited mainly on campus. But student projects also would enrich and inspire the general public. If the student projects are well presented, they would serve as an argument that these structures can be reused in a creative manner. They show the owners, the municipality, the conservationists and the state how to treat industrial heritage.
