Coupled Hydro-Mechanical Model for the Cyclic Loading of Foundation Strip

  • Original language description

The paper is addressed to the description of the coupled hydro-mechanical model of soils. The model is intended for the solution of the basic engineering problems in geomechanics such as slope stability or foundation settlement problems. The hydraulic model involves saturated and unsaturated water flow in porous medium while the plasticity model with the Cam-Clay yield criterion is adopted for the mechanical behaviour. The model results in the set of partial differential equations that is being discretized in space with the help of finite element method. The model was implemented in the in-house open source software package SIFEL that was used for the simulation of the cyclic loading of footing strip.
