Original language description
This paper describes the concept and design process of the tailor-made variable speed propeller turbine. The double-regulated (guide vanes, propeller variable speed) propeller runner simplifies mechanical design. The CFD based shape optimization enables designing the turbine tailored to any low-head site and minimizes construction costs. Two typical applications illustrate the potential CFD based optimization for turbine replacements and its applicability in highly constrained spaces.
