Recommendations for modifying concrete fatigue assessments
Original language description
The article deals with a research of fatigue resistance of concrete structures. So far, results of theoretical assessment of fatigue of concrete are often negative - especially for existing railway bridges - although the structures do not have damages, which could be caused by fatigue of concrete. To eliminate these differencies, the following reasearch was initiated. Based on ist results, two recommendations for modifying the existing procedures for assessment of the fatigue resistance of concrete were developed, which are presented in this paper. The first recommendation is to establish an equivalent train, which would better represent the actual fatigue loads. The second recommendation is to determine the fatigue resistance of concrete by using a numerical parameterization of Wöhler curves. The procedure is based on use of experimentally determined Wöhler curves and their subsequent parameterisation using four coefficients. The calculation results in the number of stress cycles needed for fatigue failure of the structure.
