Influence of Dispersed Fibers on the Mode of Failure of TRC

  • Original language description

The paper deals with the possibilities of fiber reinforced concrete and textile reinforced concrete combination, with focus especially on the influence of the dispersed fibers on the mode of failure of the tested specimens. Four commonly available material variants of fibers with different expected impact on the mode of failure were used, namely polypropylene fibers, steel microfibers, polyvinyl alcohol fibers and structural polypropylene fibers. The amount of added fibers was first optimized for the greatest mechanical effect and at the same time good processability of the mixture. Only carbon rovings impregnated with epoxy resin with a surface treatment of fine-grained silica sand were used as the textile reinforcement, with two variants differing in the amount of reinforcement in the cross-section. For a smaller amount of textile reinforcement, the effect of dispersed fibers on the tensile strength was investigated. In the case of larger amount of textile reinforcement, shear failure of the tested specimens was expected, therefore the effect of dispersed fibers on the mode of failure was investigated. Four-point bending test was performed on specimens with two layers of textile reinforcement at the upper and lower surface.
