Monitoring of fresh concrete formwork pressures
Original language description
The paper describes development of an experimental apparatus used for on-site measurements during building of reinforced concrete structures. The device is applied on a system formwork to monitor pressures in fresh concrete mixture in both vertical and lateral directions. The monitoring helps to improve the design of the formwork that is especially crucial in case of high-rise formwork elements and the use of self-compacting concretes (SCC). In the apparatus, pressure sensors are located at the bottom of a formwork wall. Both lateral and vertical pressures are measured, where the former is measured by a device attached to the formwork wall parallel to the wall surface and the latter is measured using a device built within the concrete bulk in such a way that only vertical load is acting on the sensor system. A pressure sensor built into a chamber for pressure transducing from the fresh concrete is responding to the increased pressure by increase in voltage signal output. The sensor has an output voltage proportional to the measurand and the supply voltage. Processed signal is then stored to an SD card and is live-streamed by a wifi-enabled micro-controller to a server from which it can be accessed by a user in a real-time manner. Pressures exerted by the concrete mixture over time are recorded by the system, especially during the concrete pouring process, where in particular the relationship between lateral and vertical pressure is crucial for comparing mixtures in terms of the pressure reduction. The system was tested on several real sites and used for selection of a pressure-reduced SCC.With the new mixture design conventional system formwork could be used without the need of strengthening.
