    Earth Structures – current trends

    Earth structures belong to three basic types of geotechnical structures: Earth structures - construction with ground; Foundation structures - construction on ground and Underground structures - construction in ground. Paradoxically, earth structures have been included as a separate subject in the university curriculum only in recent decades. Therefore, the contribution aims not only to summarize the specificity and basic problems of their design and construction, but also to draw attention to current trends. These trends are presented for the basic cases of earth structures, both from the point of view of the properties of the soil itself, and its subsequent use in the design and execution of these basic cases. The common link here is the principle of sustainable construction and the current digitization process with the great possibilities offered by modelling using BIM models.
