Smeared fixed crack model for numerical modelling of glass fracture in LS-DYNA

  • Original language description

Due to the expansion of glass towards load-bearing and impact-resistant structures, the reliable prediction of glass fracture is of paramount importance for evaluating the post-critical response and residual capacity of these laminated glass structures. This study is devoted to the smeared fixed crack model implemented in LS-DYNA for glass shell components. Single-element tests are employed to investigate the model performance and verify its parameter settings. Finally, the prediction of the finite element model is compared to the experimentally measured and observed impact response of a monolithic glass plate. The conclusions of our study may be useful for researchers and engineers using the LS–DYNA framework to assess the predictive capabilities and limitations of this constitutive model for glass.
