Use of fine recycled aggregate in sprayed concrete: Experimental study
Original language description
Natural aggregate deposits are becoming scarce in many parts of the world, particularly in Europe. In addition, the production of construction and demolition waste is increasing every year. The use of re-cycled aggregate in the production of concrete can help to solve both of these growing problems. This paper investigates the potential use of fine recycled aggregate in the production of sprayed concrete. The experimental programme focuses on the workability of concrete with fine recycled aggregate and the effectiveness of superplasticisers. A total of 25 cement mortar mixes were produced with five dif-ferent aggregate types (CEN standardised sand, natural aggregate, recycled concrete aggregate, recy-cled mixed aggregate and recycled brick aggregate) and four different superplasticisers. In addition, the superplasticisers were tested on eight sprayed concrete mixes. The results provide new knowledge that can be used in further research during the mix design process.
