Application of UHPC in a Bridge Repair
Original language description
Barrandov bridge is one of the most heavily loaded bridges in Prague, which is used by 140 000 vehicles per day. The bridge is composed of the two separate structures of an irregular shape in plan. Each structure carries 4 lanes of road traffic. In order to reduce the impact of the repair on the traffic in Prague, the repair is divided into 4 stages in which always only 2 lanes are closed. The repair is executed during the summer period, when the traffic loading is smaller, in 4 subsequent years. The repair started in 2022, in 2023, the 2nd stage is continuing and in the next two years, the repair will be completed. During the repair, additional prestressing using external cables is installed, the bridge deck is strengthened by a layer of UHPC and the new pavement, sidewalks, etc. are executed. A special composition of UHPC was developed in TBG Metrostav with high fibre contents and with the ability to be poured in slope up to 8%.
