This contribution discusses the results of an experimental study on the intense transport of bimodal sediment in an open channel with a mobile bed. Laboratory experiments were conducted in a recirculating tilting flume using lightweight sediment fractions that primari-ly differed in particle size. The study compares findings related to two types of sediment transport: contact-load transport and combined-load transport. It focuses on the effects of solids grading on sediment distribution across the flow depth, sediment discharge, and the friction coefficient on the plane top of the eroded bed. Lightweight sediment fractions of different colors were employed to facilitate visual observation of variations in the spatial distribution of particles within the bimodal mixture during tests conducted under high bed shear conditions. The experiments involved flows of bimodal mixtures and corresponding flows of unimodal sediments, enabling a direct comparison. The observed flows were tur-bulent, steady-state, and uniform, spanning a wide range of Froude numbers and Shields parameters. Measurements were conducted for both integral quantities, such as the dis-charges of water and sediment, flow depth, and longitudinal slope, as well as local quanti-ties, including sediment velocity and concentration. These measurements allowed for the identification of differences in how sediment grading affects bimodal transport of contact load and bimodal transport of combined load.
