Magnesium oxychloride cement with recycled MgO-C refractory waste
Original language description
Building materials based on reactive magnesia present an alternative group of materials for Portland cement replacement. In this paper, MgO-C waste originating from end-of-life refractories was used as a filler in Magnesium Oxychloride Cement (MOC). In addition, a reference sample containing MOC and silica sand was prepared and characterized. The phase composition as well as the microstructure were studied and compared. On matured samples, the mechanical properties were evaluated confirming that obtained compressive and flexural strengths are sufficient for real-life applications. Such material can be used as a fire-resistant material not only because of the fire-resistant nature of MOC itself but also because of the used refractory-based waste as a filler.
