Original language description
This study investigates the internal structure of open-channel flow transporting a bimodal sediment mixture of particles differing in size, density, and shape. Optical methods measured velocity and concentration profiles through a transparent flume wall. Results confirm a layered structure with a collisional layer characterized by rapid concentration and velocity variations. Finer particles formed a layer above the stationary bed, consistent with previous studies. A relationship between concentration at the collisional layer’s base and the Shields number was calibrated and incorporated into an existing model, improving its applicability by eliminating the need to prescribe interface concentration as an input parameter.
