    Influence of Substrate Preparation on Mechanical Properties of PVD Coating

    The main task of this research was to consider the influence of few various precleaning processes on the final properties (mechanical, physical) of the coating, created by PVD coating method. Substrate surface cleaning is a key step in the deposition process because of its crucial effect on the contamination of the substrate/coating interface and therefore on film adhesion. The optimum surface cleaning process, both chemical and physical, is of the same importance as the deposition process itself. High-speed steel (HSS) ČSN 19830 and two possible hard coatings were investigated because of its sufficiency for mechanical engineering applications - the first titanium carbide (TiN) and the second titanium karbonitrid (TiCN). The main reason to apply both of these hard coatings is to improve performance of various tools, mechanical parts and components[1]. TiN and TiCN coatings were deposited in two PVD coaters of a Swiss company name Hauzer. The first coater performs steered arc coating .
