This paper presents the authors contributions of to the methodology of this procedure. Dynamic modal models extracted from measured data are used as a reference data for 2D-FEM dynamic models validation as well as to study dependence of the spindle performance on modal parameters. FE models are utilised to identify basic design elements of a spindle unit with their modal representation in a FRF of the model. The Tlusty criterion of stability is used for spindle unit optimization from the performance point of view.
