Rapid Prototyped Models of a Human Vocal Tract Used for Experimental Acoustic Modal Analysis
Original language description
Acoustic properties of a physical model of real male vocal tract corresponding to the Czech vowel / a / are analyzed by the experimental modal analysis. The model was designed by direct transferring the data obtained from the magnetic resonance images (MRI), taken during the subject phonation, into the geometric computer model (CAD model) and afterwards the method of Rapid Prototyping was realized for creating the final physical model. The acoustic excitation was applied at the position of the vocal folds and the response was measured by a miniature microphone in several discrete points along the vocal tract. The measured frequency response functions were evaluated by a global identification method. The resulting eigenfrequencies (formants) and the acoustic mode shapes of vibration are compared with the acoustic measurements carried out during the MRI sequence realization and with the results of the modal analysis of the FE model of the vocal tract for the same vowel / a /.
