Microrheological properties of the intervertebral disc
Original language description
This work deals with a new method for in vitro microrheological testing of intervertebral disc with emphasis on stresstransmission through outer endplate. Since deformation of the endplate is insignificant in comparison to deformation of the surroundingsoft tissues it has not been declarated as biomechanically interesting part of the intervertebral disc (IVD). A few of latest studies showed that this part of the IVD is (in part) engaged to functional mechanics. This is a pilot study of micro rheological properties of the intervertebral disc, which tests the method for obtaining necessary data to make up a physical model of the lumbar spine and eventually to propose artificial intervertebral disc of a new generation. The experimental method is based onthe step-by-step layers cutting of annulus fibrosus and measuring of remaining tissue rheological properties. Parallel microscope measurement was added to detect microdeformations of tissue.
