Determination of Thermo-Mechanical State of a Cooled Ball Screw Feed Drive
Original language description
A ball screw system is widely used for rapid translating precise motion because of its high efficiency and long lifetime. However, a ball screw feed drive system naturally produces heat, which thereby causes thermal expansion of the screw shaft. Consequently it adversely affects machining accuracy not only positioning error but heat can migrate into surrounding structure which causes thermal deformation of other machine tool parts. Application of preloaded bearings brings about an additional serious drawback - potential thermal instability. A cooling of a screw shaft is a common solution to prevent all these negative features of ball screw nowadays. This paper reports on a model for prediction of thermo-mechanical state of the cooled ball screw takingnon-steady heat sources in bearings into account. Moreover the identification of the heat source in bearings using thermal transfer function is described
