    In mechanics of fluids, shear stress is one of the most important characteristics of a flow pattern. The device makes use of a precisely defined gap between two coaxial cylinders for calibrating a heated shear stress probe. The inner cylinder rotates ata known angular velocity. The probe is aligned with the interior wall of the outer, immobile cylinder. The shear stress profile in the gap is calculated from Navier-Stokes equations and compared with the anemometer reading to determine the calibration constants. The device allows for temperature readings with a 0.1°C accuracy and thus thermal calibration of the probe. The cylinder diameter is 50 mm; the active cylinder height is 250 mm. The device can be used with a wide range of liquids. Used in the domain of laminar flow. One advantage is the enclosed system with a small quantity of liquid used.
