    Laser weldability of high strength low alloy Cr-Mo steel

  • Original language description

    High power disc laser was used to weld high strength low alloy Cr Mo steel. Using laser power of 8 kW welds of 10 mm depth have been done even at high welding speed of 3 m/min. There have been found cracks in the welds. By fractography analysis they arefound to be solidification cracks. Too high S, P content was found as a main reason for occurrence of these cracks. For wider application of highly productive and high quality laser welding in automotive industry, where high strength low alloy steels areoften used, the production of these materials must focus on lowering detrimental S and P impurities content during fabrication.
