    Improving adhesion and utility function of amorphous carbon coatings is an actual trend in tribological research. We have been interested in preparation and properties of hydrogen free nanocomposites a-Si/a-C/a-Si. Using a similar technology we depositedsuch films on steel substrates. SiC, a-C, and Ti-C:H films were investigated by indentation and dry sliding testing. SiC and a-C have shown good wear resistance, but for SiC the friction coefficient rapid increases. Many characteristics developed from indentations are discussed.
