Light Materials For Telescopic Covers
Original language description
This article describes a study of possible replacement of cover segments for the machine tools. Traditionally designed covers are made from the steel sheets with the thickness between 1.5 and 3 mm. Their disadvantage is in the high weight which causes incase of the high-speed machines a necessity of usage of expensive scissors mechanisms for the cover movement. The research goal was to develop the lightweight design with acceptable stiffness as it would lead to the increase of the machining productivity. There was done the FEA of sandwich beams and of the cover segment. Parameters of the sandwich structures were determined by the optimization study. The goal was to find the lightweight design with equal stiffness to the reference steel plate. An approach for the modeling of shape-complicated covers was selected with the respect to the analysis costs. Optimal parameters of cover designs were determined.
