The Mullins effect in arterial tissue
Original language description
This paper deals with the Mullins effect in human aorta. Uni-axial cyclic tensile tests were performed. Each artery sample underwent repeated (four times) loading and unloading to a certain value of maximum stretch. Arterial tissue was considered as hyperelastic, transversally isotropic, incompressible material. A strain energy function was adopted in the limiting fiber extensibility form. Description of material response, followed by material stress softening in the repeated cycles, is based upon pseudo-elastic constitutive model proposed by Dorfmann and Ogden. This theory was developed using anisotropic form of the softening variable. The model with estimated parameters successfully fit experimental data and is suitable for application in biomedicine.
