Multiaxial Fatigue Limit Evaluation by Criteria Based on von Mises Stress
Original language description
The paper focuses on the evaluation of the set of experiments gathered in the FatLim database (www.pragtic.com/fatlim.php). The experimental results there are fatigue limits under multiaxial or uniaxial loading including mean loads. A set of carefully selected 407 experiments is used as an input for analyses of validity of various criteria based on von Mises stress. Though the trend today tends to more complex multiaxial fatigue analyses and there are numerous criteria proposed for such a solution, Mises stress based criteria are very simple and efficient for use. Their use in the engineering practice is still very substantial. Therefore, in addition to the previous work on multiaxial analyses, the author focuses on these simple analytical tools (as Manson-McKnight, Sines, etc.) and analyses their applicability for various sets of material classes or experimental conditions. The comparison with more enhanced multiaxial methods is also provided.
