Possibility of biomass utilization in a district heating system
Original language description
The paper presents a study of possible biomass application in a district heating system that runs on coal and natural gas, with aim to exclude the coal combustion. Four different alternatives are proposed - two heating only and two in CHP mode. The alternatives are evaluated by specific heat production price and discounted payback period of the investment costs. In the result, the alternative with a single heating boiler is the most feasible. On the other hand, the CHP possibilities are not economicallyacceptable because of combination of high investment costs and relatively small saving compared to the reference situation. Biomass price sensitivity is also calculated. It is shown that a fairly small increase in biomass price can make certain alternative unfeasible.
