Evaluation of current knowledge about abrasive wear of aluminium, magnesium, titanium and copper alloys from the point of abrasion mechanisms. Abrasion resistance of these materials can be increased by surface modification or by strenghtening with hard particles, since a solid solution hardening with alloying elements usually does not improve their resistance against the abrasive effect of hard mineral particles.
