An integrated approach to the development of machine tool structural parts
Original language description
The development of structural parts of a new or modified machine tool is a complex task, as many different properties have to be adjusted. There are two main strategies for improving the structural properties of machine tools: optimizing the design of the machine tool's structure or applying unconventional materials. The paper focuses on development methodology, demonstrated on a case study of the development of a modified column for a horizontal boring machine, with complex comparisons of various design versions and their properties. The potential for increases in the performance of the machine tool with respect to its price is discussed in the summary.
