The paper presents a model of a tooth gear system which allows a complex analysis of dynamic properties of the feed drive. The model, comprising a description of shaft, bearings, wheel and gearbox compliances, is assembled in state space as a coupled system of finite element models and includes a description of the stiffness of tooth contact.
