Measurements of heterogeneous particles in superheated steam in turbines
Original language description
The relative importance of heterogeneous and homogeneous nucleation processes in steam turbines is still unclear. This paper presents a continued study of heterogeneous particles present in superheated power station steam. Previous work described a novelmethod to determine the specific number and size distribution of particles down to 3 nm. In this paper, further measurements at Power Plant Prunéřov II (PRUII) are reported along with improvements in the methods of sampling and analysis. In addition tosampling the superheated steam at 0.133 MPa, 174 °C, samples were also taken at higher pressure and temperature levels of 0.27 MPa, 250 °C. The concentration of particles was determined as 1.5x109 per kg of steam at the lower pressure and as 2.5x109 at the higher pressure. A diffusion battery was used to determine the size distribution of particles instead of the previously used Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS). Compared to the SMPS results, the diffusion battery revealed a smalle
